A day with the two times World Champion
On Friday 2nd December 2016, I had the pleasure to host Peter Sagan, the two-time UCI Road World Champion, in the Langhe area. Being a deep cycling enthusiast, besides a fine wine lover, it was huge emotion and I felt so lucky to have this possibility to spend a full day with the greatest talent in cycling.
It was one of those days that I will always remember and, after the first moment of embarrassment due to the fact I was in front of my idol, the day was simply amazing, especially because Peter Sagan made me feel comfortable very quickly.
Time just flew with him and his wife: after meeting in Barolo, we had lunch together and, while sitting at the table, I found out the great interest Sagan had about wine, local food and Truffle. After lunch, I took him to a winery in the Barolo area first and then to another one in the Barbaresco zone, in order to show him an overview of the local wines. I have to admit that I was a bit surprised by his taste, as he enjoyed a lot those wines that normally are a bit more complicated to understand when you are new to the wines of Langhe.
After a quick tour in Alba in order to buy some White Truffle, we headed to the restaurant for dinner: we enjoyed a little more wine and great food while chatting a bit about cycling his upcoming new season. Before greet and leave him after dinner, he was very kind to gift me his World Champion cycling jersey with his signature and inscription… it was simply the best Christmas gift ever!
At the end of this day, it is easy to realize why so many people love Peter Sagan: he is just as much a champion off the bike as he is on it, this is simply enough to understand how amazing this guy is.
