Piero Busso

Neive, Piedmont

Founded by Piero's father in 1953, the estate has always been a family affair and now is run by Piero, his wife Lucia, his daughter Emanuela and his son Pierguido, who manage all phases of production from their organically farmed vineyards to the winery.

Piero Busso, with his bright young son Pierguido, has driven the quality of wines to greater heights at this top-drawer family Barbaresco estate. Based in Neive, the winery has at its core some fine Nebbiolo vines planted in the Albesani vineyard but the estate's fine holdings also boast parcels in the fabulous Gallina vineyard and Treiso's San Stunet. The viticulture approach is nature friendly with respect to the soil, the vines and the environment. From the 10 hectares of vineyards they make exceptional wines of authenticity and character that reflect the terroirs they come from.

Winemaking is traditional here, long and slow, and ageing occurs in large Slavonian oak casks. Expressive and seductive, these are wines that have something to say about where they are from. Each parcel has its own vinification and such a rigorous selection is done in order to highlight the quality and uniqueness of each type of soil on the property. Piero Busso has been showing amazing quality and consistency in the wines and he is an emerging artisan producer to watch very closely in the years to come.
