Vietti

Castiglione Falletto, Piedmont

The history of the Vietti winery traces its roots back to the 19th century but it was only at the beginning of the 20th century that the Vietti name becomes a winery offering its own wines in bottle. Based in the small medieval hamlet of Castiglione Falletto, in the Piedmont’s famous Langhe wine region, Vietti is one of the venerable names in the Italian wine production and has established a reputation that has never waned as one of the finest wineries from the Langhe wine region. Here, the Currado family carefully and patiently handcrafts acclaimed wines that are the result of a unique combination of sun and soil.

Today, Luca Currado leads the Vietti estate and employs a unique combination of modern and traditional winemaking. His focus on the terroir is reflected in his careful cultivation and organic farming of more than 25 single vineyards. Luca is unquestionably one of stars of the Barolo region, producing coveted single cru Barolos as well as outstanding Barbarescos, Barberas and even a fabulous everyday Dolcetto. He takes immense care in every step and procedure from vine to bottle, allowing the wines to express themselves, their history, pedigree and terroir. Luca truly believes that a great wine is 80% terroir, 10% passion and dedication from the winemaker and 10% luck.

Vietti is the only estate in Piedmont that owns vineyards in all eleven of the Barolo-producing municipalities and many of the parcels are located in the region’s most historic and pedigreed sites. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, and then the wines are racked into French oak barrels for the malolactic fermentation and finally moved into casks for aging, all of which vary from vineyard to vineyard. Vietti’s Barolos are benchmarks of their type: magnificent, complex reds that, thanks to the Nebbiolo grape’s firm tannins and high acidity, can age effortlessly for decades.
